Denise Watkins
Denise is no longer the Alpha Palm user in her family. She now has to refer to herself as the Alpha Handheld or PDA user. The household has now expanded to include to 2 Sony CLIE models, a Dell Axiom, an iPAQ 3950, and a Fossil Pocket PC watch.
While still relying on the Palm OS for most of her needs, Denise has also gone over to what she jokingly refers to as "The Dark Side," using a iPAQ to log into the company network -- enabling her to leave her laptop behind at times. Out of nessecessity, Denise has learned to support both platforms.
Due to the more widespread availablity of Palm OS applications, she still has a decided preference towards the Palm OS.
Denise has spoken at conference such as Computers in Libraries and and the upcoming Quintessential Conferece for Libraries (http://www.quintmeeting.org/) and Internet Librarian Conference (http://www.infotoday.com/il2003/) on the use of handhelds in the Library environment as another platform to deliver content.
She is currently the President-Elect of the Philadelphia Chapter (http://www.sla.org/chapter/cphl/leaders.htm) of the Special Libraries Association (http://www.sla.org).

He palm, she palm
You wouldn't think there were any women Palm device users by visiting a lot of Palm organizer-related Web sites. A recent visit to one Web site found a survey that asked, "Where do you carry your Palm device?" The choices were belt clip, pants pocket, shirt pocket, or briefcase. Was the omission of a purse as a carrying space for a Palm device an act of deliberate sexism or a logical choice, based on recent demographics of Palm device users? In this lighthearted article, Denise Watkins examines the differences and similarities of Palm device use between men and women by sharing the results of an informal survey she conducted.
