Maps on your Palm device? Get lost!
PalmPower's resident technology skeptic has become lost in a gray void. At least according to the map he downloaded from MapBlast, that is. Both MapBlast and its better-known competitor, MapQuest, allow you to download maps and directions to your Palm device using AdvantGo. This month, Kevin Quin takes a critical look at these two Web sites that manage to lose both him and the entire Baltimore-Washington Parkway. [PalmPower Magazine, June 2000]

Dr. Strangepalm or, how I learned to stop worrying and love Microsoft
If you've been listening to the prophets of doom lately, you've already heard that the End Days are here, and the Beast Whose Number is 666 is on the horizon. Microsoft's Pocket PC is coming, and many predict that by 2003 Microsoft will own over half the PDA market (assuming Microsoft doesn't get chopped into lots of little pieces), relegating Palm, Inc. to the status of also-ran. In this article, PalmPower's resident technology skeptic, Kevin Quin, takes a daring stance, embracing the apocalypse as if he were Slim Pickens riding an H-bomb into oblivion. [PalmPower Magazine, May 2000]

Why isn't the Palm organizer catching on?
PalmPower's resident technology skeptic, Kevin Quin, has been feeling a bit lonely lately. When he bought his first PalmPilot, he dealt with "you geek" looks from friends and coworkers by confidently telling them they would all be Palm computer users within three years. Flash forward to present day, and handheld organizers are yet to have landed in the grasping palms of every man, woman, and child. This month, he analyzes the phenomena and offers some tips for Palm, Inc.'s marketing division in this thought-provoking and funny article. [PalmPower Magazine, April 2000]

Software for the rest of us: document readers and converters
Kevin Quin, PalmPower's famous technology skeptic, is at it again. This month, he's going to give you the straight dope on the best, free document readers and converters he's found. Kevin's done all the research for you. Read and learn! [PalmPower Magazine, March 2000]

I sync, you sync, we all sync with WeSync
While the handheld device revolution has certainly made organization a whole lot easier, keeping more than one person "in sync" still seems like a far-off dream. Or is it? Contributing Editor Kevin Quin examines one way to keep everyone's schedules on the same track. [PalmPower Magazine, January 2000]

I believe!
This article was beamed to the North Pole from the Palm device of PalmPower's Technology Skeptic Kevin Quin. Unknown to him, however, it was also intercepted by an astute PalmPower reader in Washington, D.C., who forwarded it to PalmPower. What? You're surprised the North Pole has a receiver powerful enough to pick up an infrared beam from 3,000 miles away? Remember, Santa makes ALL the toys! [PalmPower Magazine, December 1999]

First things first
If you took Kevin Quin's sage advice last month, you immediately went out and bought a Palm IIIe. On the other hand, you may have ignored his sage advice (shame on you!) and purchased a Handspring Visor, which also uses the Palm operating system. Either way, before getting much into Palm devices, you should take a few steps to protect and enhance your new device. Read this fun article to find out how. [PalmPower Magazine, November 1999]

A guide to choosing the Palm device that's right for you
There are lots of new products this month, some from Palm and some from Handspring, the intriguing new upstart. But which device should you buy? We're pleased to introduce a new Technology Skeptic column by Kevin Quin. In it, Kevin helps our less technically inclined readers choose among the new devices. But even if you're more of a technology expert, Kevin's article's a very useful and informative read. [PalmPower Magazine, October 1999]
